August 2016 12th Annual Back-to-School Issue sponsored by Providence Academy and Rhea Lana's

I have the same feeling every year when it’s time for school to start. Dread. It seems silly. I love my kids’ elementary school. They’ve loved all their teachers and the staff, and they are cared for as if they were that person’s child. They have really good friends there too. Honestly, the dread comes from not seeing them as often in the day and sticking to rigid schedules of making lunches, bedtime routines, before and after school activities. You get the idea.

To add insult to injury, we have one entering junior high school this year. Many unknowns await us and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t anxious for her. She sailed through middle school these last two years and had a wonderful experience but this is a new playing field. It’s a scary and exciting time and one that’s sure to bring the start of a new normal at our house.

I share my stories because I can relate to most of you. I remember being the first time mom of a Kindergartener. (one more to go!) I know how it feels to send them to a new school where parents aren’t informed of every detail because it’s time for your child to learn their own way. And trust me, I’m taking notes from parents who have already graduated kids from high school and college. Gulp!

The flip side is that it makes me happy to watch them grow, learn and experience new things. I’m sure you share that sentiment. And whether this is your first or last year to send kids off to school, somewhere in between or you’re a homeschooling mom, this 12th Annual Back-to-School Issue will help guide decisions and smooth transitions for your family. Look to the quick-reference guide on pages 46-57 for businesses that provide all your back to school needs.

We get to offer double thanks this month to Rhea Lana’s and Providence Academy for their joint efforts in sponsoring this issue! The owner of Rhea Lana’s is Ashley Noland and her kids attend Providence so they have a great partnership and it made for a fun photo shoot!

Rhea Lana’s is NWA’s premier children’s consignment event where you can shop for or sell all your children’s clothing, toys, furniture, books, games, baby equipment and more all in one convenient spot. Their back-to-school event is August 21-27 at 1106 N. Old Missouri Rd (just north of The Jones Center), Springdale. Visit www.rhealana.com for more information.

Providence Academy is a premier private, independent, college-preparatory school serving Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville. 11th Annual August Back-to-School Issue 2015

Remember the scene from Finding Nemo where Nemo excitedly wakes his dad with anticipation for his first day of school? While bouncing on his dad he yells, “First day of school! First day of school! Wake up, wake up! C’mon, first day of school!” His dad is exceedingly much less enthusiastic about this moment for his first born & only son! [Finding Nemo, Dir. Andrew Stanton, Lee Unkrich. Perf. Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, Alexander Gould. Buena Vista Home Entertainment, 2003. Film.]

The notion of being hesitant to send your kids back to school might make you chuckle as you’ve exhausted all your summer-time activities and are ready to get back into a routine. Or you may be a bit weepy (like me) as with the realization that another school year means the kids are one year older!

No matter where you fall on this spectrum, we hope you’ll find this 11th Annual Back-to-School Issue a valuable tool & that this will be a seamless school year for your family. There are 68 advertisers featured in this issue who want to help make this a reality. You can find their ads on pages 7-48 with the back-to-school quick reference guide on pages 49-59.

We’d like to offer a very special THANK YOU to ONCE UPON A CHILD of Fayetteville & Rogers for sponsoring this issue & for providing the cover clothing. They have a huge selection of gently-used, affordable clothing with brands like Justice, Aero, Children’s Place, Gap, Old Navy & more in sizes from preemie to 16/18. They also buy items every day & pay you on the spot with no appointment necessary.

We’re also proud to partner again with N.c.K. Talent Academy for our cover models. Their kids are talented, respectful & engaging. We’re always amazed with their poise & maturity. Having your picture taken in a field with a school desk was a strange notion for a 4 year old but Kaleena Matthews was a delight to photograph. She even received a toy bow & arrow from her mom as a reward–way to go!

As I write this letter, on my desk sits three school supply lists for my kids. A somber reminder that summer will be over too soon & our kids will be starting a new school year. With school-aged children of our own, the staff at Kid’s Directory understands how this experience can feel overwhelming. This issue is jam-packed with resources for preschools, private schools, after-school care & activities (gymnastics, dance, art, drama, martial arts, swimming, technology, music, tutoring & more), back-to-school check-ups & physicals & of course, school supplies & clothing. You can find these back-to-school ads on pages 8-46 with a special quick-reference guide feature on pages 48-57. Northwest Arkansas TCBY has been advertising with Kid’s Directory since we opened our store over 3 years ago.  The Kid’s Directory team has been fantastic to work with, and our advertisement in Kid’s Directory has consistently given us one of the best returns on investment of any of our print advertising.
